Self Inking Stamps Save Businesses Valuable Time
Self inking stamps offer convenience and economy of time in use. They can be used repeatedly without needing re-inking, and save time because there is no need to use a separate motion to re-ink the stamp for each impression. The origins of stamping in general began around 1736, with South American native tattooing.
In 1844, Charles Goodyear developed the stabilizing vulcanizing process for rubber, and by the late 1860's stamps were available for sale. B.B. Hills patented a self inking hand stamp in 1886.
A self inking stamp is a small stamping device that either can be re-inked or holds its own replaceable ink pad. It is used for repeat stamping, literally up to 50,000 impressions. The device operates in a smooth, simple, single motion action, has an internal ink pad, and label area on top for identification.
Self inking stamps are made from either high impact plastic, steel plated metal, or steel. This handy tool eliminates the need for a messy ink pad. A new innovation is the two color self inking stamp.
Self inking stamps vary in size, from 1/2" diameter circle stamps to 1-7/16"x3-1/8" rectangles. Custom orders and sizes are available. The number of impressions range from good quality of 5000 impressions to excellent quality of 50,000 impressions.
Re-inking fluid is available in colors: black, blue, green, red and violet. Re-useable pads can be purchased. Most stamps can handle 1 to 6 lines of text, depending on size.
Self inking stamps come in pocket size, normal desktop size (fits in hand nicely); daters and number stamps are also available. Quality ranges from good to excellent, with the important difference being the number of times a stamp can be used.
Pricing varies with size and amount of text, roughly from $12.95 to $26.95 (USD) for standard self inking stamps. The fluids are available in a 2 ounce size for $4.95 (USD). Replacement pads are used with some self inking stamps, and these need to carefully match the originals.
Text and logos can be created in the rubber stamp area, matching type sizes to the stamp size restrictions. Stamps can be very useful and creative.

It's been a while since I made a greeting card with my craft stamps. I have been using my Cricut Expression machine to make my greeting cards lately and I wanted to go back and use some of my craft rubber stamps that I have, and boy do I have craft stamps. One day I will post some pictures of all the craft stamps that I have.
Anyway, for this birthday card I wanted to share with you first of all a really cute craft stamps, some cool rubber stamping techniques and all this while I am making a birthday card for my father-in-law. When he was at my home in March, I took him to his first ever craft rubber stamps convention. He couldn't believe how many different craft stamps they had as well as how many ladies were all in one convention center. It was great and where we found some special craft rubber stamps, so I thought I would show him what I can create using some rubber stamping techniques that I have learned over the years.
I just love craft stamps that pertain to cats, and this particular craft stamp reminds me of my cat Tapioca. He is so cute.
What you will need:
Cat craft stamps (Stamps by Judith) Sentiment - Happy Birthday ~ Perfectly Clear craft stamps (Stampendous) StazOn Black Solvent Ink Pad Watercolor pencils (Loew-Cornell) Water Brush Flower Pot paper punch (Emaginations) Paper from Stampin' Up: Really Rust, Sage Shadow, Barely Banana, and Basic Black. I have no clue where I got the white card stock from. Adhesive pop dots and tape runner
How to make it:
First I cut all the card stock listed above to get the layered look that I wanted for this card. Then I stamped the cat craft stamps image with my Black StazOn ink pad. I then put embossing powder on the wet ink and heat set.
The reason why I used the solvent ink and embossed is that I am now going to use my watercolor pencils to color in the image and I did not want the black ink to run into the colors.
I used watercolor pencils along with my water brush, to color the cat and the stem and leaf. I then used another of my great rubber stamping techniques and that was to color the flower with an embossing marker and then put on the embossing powder. Using my heat gun I then made the flower have a shiny finish.
I punched out of brown paper the flower pot. I put the pop dots only at the rim of the flower pot, and then used my tape runner for the bottom of the flower pot. I wanted to give a three dimensional look like the cat was really sitting in the flower pot.
I then used Tulip Color Point Stitch paint to make the dirt. I really got inside the rim to get the effect that the cat was in the pot. I again used my heat gun to set the paint and give it the uneven puffy look. (When I was cleaning my craft closet a few months back I came across all of these Tulip paints and all of my craft stamps and I wanted to start using them for fun projects like this one).
For the inside I used one of my Perfectly Clear craft stamps and stamped Happy Birthday. Nice and simple.
I almost forgot, I finished him off with a little black and white ribbon that I tied around his neck, for a fun look for my cat.
I hope he like the card, since I used the craft stamps that we bought together. I sure had a lot of fun making it. I think now that I had so much fun with this card that I will start using more from the collection of my craft stamps for upcoming birthdays and holidays. Hope you enjoyed it too!

My family always throws one of the biggest Super bowl parties every year and this one isn’t any different than the others. This year’s Super bowl invitation is an interactive invitation including dress up as your favorite team, a tailgate themed potluck and a neighborhood food drive! My mother likes to use her rubber stamp collection to create very involved and elaborate Super bowl invitations with glitter and team colors and even sparkling confetti!
Then, my mother dresses up her two Labradors in both of the competing team colors and creates a large football cake to display until half time. The large cake is chocolate with chocolate frosting in the shape of a football of course. Then friends and extended family start showing up.
Some people come dressed in head to toe team colors, including face paint. Some people dress up like their team’s mascot or even their babies in mascot outfits. Even though it’s an insane party, people are always gracious guest, bringing food, drinks and host and hostess gifts ranging from bouquets of flowers, doggie treats to gift baskets.
It doesn’t even matter when half time is with this big group- people start eating the minute they walk into the door. Therefore, its fun to have food come out at different times of the evening, slow cooked Swedish meatballs could come out later, but chips and salsa could be brought out first. My dad always makes a big deal out of barbequing outside in the cold when it’s not summertime, like he is braving the extreme conditions just for us.
No matter who wins or loses, the Super Bowl invitation is always great to receive and attend the party because no one puts any pressure on anyone to own up to their team or haze each other if one team loses or the other. It’s all about friends and family and old fashion American gluttony and voyeurism to watch vast amounts of money for advertising companies to release their ‘best” commercials.
The women often end up gabbing in the kitchen and sharing old stories or recipes as yet another nacho cheese dip or cocktail wieners comes steaming from the kitchen. More beer and chips than any one household would know what to do with- but we always send home more than we keep at our place.
Even though my parents go a little over board- it’s the memories that stay with you- all with the start of a little invitation. Whether I have a cocktail party, snow shoveling party or just a night in with the ladies, I’m going to make an invitation that shines- first impressions say it all.

Do not be afraid to get creative and be unique. A colleague of mine once sent out personalized , self inking rubber stamps to his clients. Each rubber stamp featured the name of the business it was addressed to. My colleague even went through the trouble of having each company's logo put on each stamp. So in this case the client did not just receive a Christmas card, but a highly functional and fun "stocking stuffer" in the form of a personalized, self inking business stamp. The stamps ended up being so popular that, after running some analytics, I am convinced it boosted the businesses bottom line by almost ten percent.
